Dr. Kiran Hazratwala

Kiran has a special interest and expertise in Laparoscopic Nephrectomy / Laser Lithotripsy, Laparoscopic Renal Surgery, Urological Oncology, Laser Stone Surgery, minimally invasive treatments for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Vasectomy/reversal thereof.

Upon completion of his advanced surgical training, Kiran undertook a further twelve (12)-month sub-specialty fellowship in Prostatic Oncology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. It was here that he gained expertise in both the surgical and non-surgical management of Prostate cancer.

Kiran oversees the training of clinical and junior medical staff at the Mater Hospital, Townsville. This includes the management and control of the funding provided for the training of junior doctors by the Federal Government. He is a James Cook University MBBS Clinical Examiner and leads weekly clinical tutorial sessions for students. He also provides monthly teaching sessions to Mater Hospital Services North Queensland surgical interns and does presentations to the Townsville General Practice Network (TGPN) every 6 months.

Kiran was involved in the implementation of greenlight laser technology at the Nambour General Hospital by preparing a business case to access available government funding. Kiran’s involvement in this project gave him valuable insight into purchasing and implementing technology efficiently in both public and private healthcare settings.

Since moving to Townsville, Kiran has maintained strong academic links as a lecturer and tutor to James Cook University Medical students in Urological Surgery at the Mater Hospital. His continued interest in teaching has allowed him to mentor and support both young medical doctors in training as well as medical students. Kiran has other business interests outside of the health industry.
